Let me know when the knives come out and you have to set up a Give-a-Little page in order to survive. I'll be first in line to donate.

You are fast becoming one of the best writers in NZ. You have deep experience of both the Maori and pakeha worlds and their institutions but have managed to maintain your independence, integrity and sanity.

Most of us at some point struggle with our shadow/darker impulses and most make it out the other side better people. Yet there are those that don't or even those that embrace it. They need to be exposed especially if they are powerful, so thank you.

Your piece might also help to explain why the vibe coming out of te Pati Maori feels increasingly like Malcolm X or post Mandela ANC South Africa, rather than Martin Luther King.

Good on you for shining some light on this festering and corrupt organisation and the charlatan who runs it. Let’s see if the gutless Government drones in Wellington finally develop some spine and deal to/with this vile crook.

when you see the Hollywood "coke mansion" that Tamihere lives in out west AK, the allusions to Pablo Escobar are not too far off the mark...cunning, JT has his home registered as his business office ( tax, baby,tax)..the only puzzle is his brazen-ness which is inviting attention big time now...I saw Jodi Ihaka interview him on Marae last year..she said " aren't you just a successful criminal ?" which blew me away...JT just smiled and carried on with the interview

Met him once back in his “front-bum’s” days, through his other narcissistic Labour Party flatmate, O’Connor, and yes, even then he was a self absorbed individual with a modicum of charm, who, like the picture of Dorian Gray, seemed likely to morph into the character you’ve described.

Unfortunately he is not the only one. Many "influential " maori have taken advantage of whanau to advance themselves and their families. And they've earned a knighthood in the process.

They need to be outed. You've started the ball rolling

Thank you for this illuminating piece. Let’s hope the investigating bodies have some nerve as previous complaints by whistleblowers have not been followed up, I believe.
